So in these reading we we are still talking about Abram, who God renames as Abraham. His wife Sarai also gets a new name, Sarah.

Ok, so there was a lot of what I consider messed up stuff happening in these readings. I guess maybe what was most concerning to me was the treatment of women? For one, there is an awful lot of passing women around. Twice during these readings Abraham tells kings that his wife is really his sister and lets the king take her since she's apparently really pretty. 1.) Who does that? He apparently does it because he's afraid the king will kill him and take her anyway, but like, what a coward? And this is God's chosen one??? 2.) Sarah apparently really is his half-sister? And everyone is just OK with this? Umm wtf?

Then there is the treatment of Hagar, who is Sarai/Sarah's Egyptian servant. Basically her mistress decides to give her to her husband to get pregnant, but Hagar ends up being upset about the whole ordeal. This is rape, folks. The whole things was just awful, honestly.

Ok, then next there is a bit about Lot that had me going, "like what?" So God decides that Sodom and Gomorrah are evils cities and is going to destroy them, and it was kind of nice that he tells Abraham that he won't destroy them if there are any righteous people still left there (even if there are only 10). But apparently all that applied to was Lot and crew. And when the come angels tell Lot to git outta there, he gets scared and the first thing he says is basically, "Don't hurt me, but here, take my virgin daughters and do whatever you want to them." LIKE WHAT? What a coward. And this is someone God took pains to save? Seriously?
